If you’re planning a small wedding in Washington and want a setting that feels intimate and romantic, a Christianson’s Nursery wedding offers all of that and more. Especially for couples drawn to artful portraits and meaningful gatherings, this space becomes part of the story. When I arrived at Christianson’s Nursery in Mount Vernon, I didn’t feel the usual pre-shoot rush. The whole place just invites you to slow down.
The greenhouses here feel like they’ve been part of the landscape forever, with ivy climbing down the sides like it’s not in any rush to leave. Walking the paths, you pass roses and little tucked-away benches that feel like they’re just waiting for someone to stop and breathe for a second. I remember wandering through on my first visit and thinking, ‘Yep, I could spend all day here!’ It’s quiet but not in a lonely way, more like it’s giving you room to actually feel the day as it’s happening.
That’s the kind of wedding venue this is: not flashy or forced, but full of soul.

Christianson’s Nursery Wedding in Mount Vernon
One of my favorite things about this little corner of Mount Vernon is how it feels like it’s from another time. Christianson’s Nursery, right in the middle of Skagit Valley, is perfect for weddings under 100 guests.
It’s not just a spot to stand and take pictures, it’s part of the day. The first time I came here, I instantly slowed down to just take everything in for a moment. The light through the greenhouse glass felt easy and natural, and the garden paths made me want to keep exploring. For a small space there was just so much potential. It’s the kind of place where you notice small moments, and that type of calm carries into every part of the wedding.

With its wooden buildings and touches of vintage elegance, this place has the perfect mix of charm and substance. It’s great if you want an outdoor wedding but still want a venue that feels lived-in and full of character. The gardens and open fields aren’t just there to look nice, they make you want to wander and lose track of time. I’ve photographed a lot of venues, but this one genuinely sticks with me.

From Paintings to Portraits: The Artistic Vision Behind This Shoot

The inspiration for this shoot came entirely from vintage-style paintings, think muted tones, and timeless poses all with light spilling across a subject like brushstrokes. From the beginning, I knew I wanted to lean all the way into that artsy, vintage feel. If you know me, you know that’s where I love to live! Christianson’s Nursery made it so effortless. Bridgerton, eat your heart out.
We leaned into the midday light and let the botanical shadows fall across the brides skin. For such an elegant, art gallery worthy photo. It was such simple direction. I just had her stand under the climbing roses, relax her face, and look at one of the flowers. Pure art. The mix of rough textures and garden details gave the photos a little edge and honestly, no extra editing could’ve made it any better!

Why a Christianson’s Nursery Wedding Is Best for Weddings Under 100 Guests
This isn’t the kind of venue that’s trying to impress you with sheer size or grandeur, it’s all about intention. The type of place where you can slip away with your partner, share vows you wrote on a scrap of paper, and actually hear the wind in the trees while you do it. If you know me, you know I’m all about spaces that make you feel something and Christianson’s has that in every corner. It’s beautiful, yes, but more than that, it gives you the kind of moments you’ll actually remember!

Christianson’s really shines for weddings under 100 guests. It naturally pulls people closer. You can hear the laughter during the vows, catch your grandma’s happy tears from across the aisle, and actually feel like everyone there is part of the moment, not just watching it. If you’re leaning toward a Christianson’s Nursery wedding, the intimate scale gives you room to focus on what matters most. You can swap a big production for a ceremony tucked into the rose garden, or a long dinner under string lights where you talk with every single guest. Every corner has that kind of potential.

Things to Consider If You’re Thinking About a Christianson’s Nursery Wedding

Ceremony + Reception Spaces
The most popular spot for ceremonies at Christianson’s Nursery is the Schoolhouse Garden, a tucked-away courtyard surrounded by greenery and blooming florals. Don’t forget about all the dreamy accents too! It’s intimate and peaceful yet still feels naturally romantic without needing much added decor.
For receptions, couples often use the nearby greenhouse and garden space. It’s ideal for small gatherings and perfect if you’re going for a cozy dinner party vibe. Whether you opt for al fresco tables or bring in a tent, the venue keeps everything close together, which makes the whole evening feel connected and easy to navigate for guests. Honestly, I think a long family style table down the middle row of the greenhouse would look magical and make for something unforgettable.

Catering
One of the perks of this venue is the flexibility! Christianson’s Nursery allows outside catering, so you’re free to bring in your dream team, whether that’s a wood-fired pizza truck or a full-service farm to table catering company. Only thing to keep in mind is that this space doesn’t have a built-in kitchen, so you’ll want vendors who can work from a prep area or food truck setup!

Why You’ll Love It
A Christianson’s Nursery wedding has this quiet, soulful energy that’s hard to fake. It’s for couples who care more about how the day feels than putting on a big show. It’s not trendy or overdone, and that’s the beauty of it. If you want a space that feels intentional and a little artsy, this is the place.

When to Get Married at Christianson’s Nursery
The nursery is open year-round, but spring and summer are when it really shines. If you’re hoping for an outdoor ceremony surrounded by flowers in full bloom, May through early July is an ideal window. The English-style garden hits its peak in late spring, when roses bloom beside lavender and other climbing flowers, creating a lush, romantic backdrop that feels like something out of a storybook.
Early fall is gorgeous here, softer colors and fewer people wandering the grounds.
Winters here tend to be quiet and damp (classic Pacific Northwest), so unless you’re planning something very cozy and greenhouse-based, most couples opt for late spring through fall for that painterly garden look.
